The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital offers diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the ear, nose, and throat and is equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices, specialized operating rooms and the best medical team qualified to perform advanced medical techniques to present the best medical experience.
Nasal Disease Clinic
The Nasal Disease Clinic accurately diagnoses and provides medications for allergic rhinitis, septal deviation, nasal valve dysfunction, and acute and chronic sinusitis that cause nasal obstruction and, if necessary, performs surgical treatments. We are capable of providing the best treatment, thanks to the latest outpatient equipment, advanced endoscopic operating rooms, and the navigation system for otorhinolaryngologic surgeries. Moreover, we are playing a leading role in improving the satisfaction of patients by taking multi-modal approaches, such as treatment with positive airway pressure device, for accurate diagnosis and surgeries to deal with various sleep disorders including specialized care for snoring and sleep apnea in adults and children.
Diseases associated with ear
We provide diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic otitis media, otitis media with effusion, and hearing impairment. We run a hearing aid center and perform middle ear implant and cochlear implant on patients with severe hearing loss. Tympanoplasty in patients with chronic otitis media uses a minimally invasive procedure that allows for same-day surgery and discharge, which, thus, is convenient for the patients. Devices for equilibrium function test, rotation chair test, and head impulse test have been introduced to offer an accurate diagnosis for patients with dizziness, implementing the vestibular rehabilitation therapy. In order to treat patients with facial paralysis, we conduct highly advanced skull base surgeries for facial nerve decompression, auditory nerve tumor, jugular bulb tumor, etc. Our safe surgical skills for those surgeries have been taught by Professor Mario Sanna (Italy) who is an internationally acclaimed master of skull-base tumors and we offer patients individually customized treatment.
Head and Neck Diseases
The head and neck field diagnoses and treats diseases occurring at the corresponding area including voice disorders (e.g., vocal cord polyps and nodules), laryngopharyngeal reflux disease, sialolithiasis, lymphadenopathy, and head and neck cancers including oral cancer, tonsil cancer, salivary gland tumor, oropharyngeal cancer, hypopharyngeal cancer, malignant tumor of larynx, and thyroid cancer. In particular, we conduct studies and surgeries on patients with intractable vocal disorders and performed the first peripheral neurectomy of the nerve leading to vocal fold and recurrent laryngeal nerve in patients with spasmodic dysphonia in Korea; this has led us to achieve and report great outcomes following rich surgery experiences.
