The Department of Laboratory Medicine examines and analyzes different types of human-derived samples including urine, bodily fluid, and tissue to establish essential data for prevention, diagnosis, and prognosis of disease and determination of therapeutic efficiency.
Under the supervision of each specialist, The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital is divided into the sub-fields of diagnostic hematology, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, transfusion medicine, diagnostic immunology, cytogenetics, and molecular genetics and conducts a wide range of tests. Based on the high-tech equipment and outstanding computer system, results are promptly and accurately generated. In addition to the tests, collection and storage of stem cells and apheresis are conducted which end up largely benefiting treatment of cancer patients.
The emergency laboratory is responsible for tests that are crucial in caring for emergency patients at all hours. In addition, we have realized a laboratory system which allows a walk-in treatment - thanks to our advanced laboratory automation system.
This laboratory has been accredited by various evaluation programs including Laboratory Medicine Foundation’s Clinical Laboratory Accreditation Program, Korea Association of External Quality Assessment Service's External Quality Assessment, and Screening of Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation.
